If you (like so many people) are completely fed up with the seemingly unending lines at the tax office, then listen up! Help is on the horizon.
The Ministry of Commerce, Science and Technology recently launched the e-Government programme, which is aimed at providing more efficient government services to the Jamaican people. As part of this programme, the Tax Administration and Inland Revenue departments are now offering taxpayers the opportunity to pay some taxes and fees online. Yes, tax payments can now be made online to a virtual tax collectorate. Anyone with an email address, and a Master Card or Visa Card can use the Internet to pay taxes at anytime, on a 24-hours-a-day, seven days-a-week basis. This can be done by simply logging on to www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm. TYPES OF TAXES The online service at present can only accommodate payments of traffic tickets, property tax, consumption taxes (GCT and SCT), hotel and betting taxes, among other fees and licenses. Taxes that require the filing of returns or the proof of a receipt are set to come on stream later. At the recent launch of the online tax payment programme, Phillip Paulwell, Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, said tax payment is now devoid of the hassle it once embodied. http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20050509/news/news3.html |
