New data show cellular phone use in Jamaica is growing at a rapid rate.
Information contained in the Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ's latest economic update and outlook reveals that the customer base for cellular telephone services increased by 800-thousand last year. At the end of December, the customer base was in the region of two-point-two million compared to one-point-four million during the corresponding period in 2003. And while more Jamaicans used cellular phones to communicate, the number of working main lines continued to decline. At the end of December last year, working main lines amounted to 383-thousand down from 440-thousand at the end of the corresponding period in 2003. According to the PIOJ, the decline continued to reflect the switching of customers from the use of land lines to cellular phones as well as voluntary disconnections. http://www.radiojamaica.com/biz_news/?id=15825 |
