Panmedia introduces a new web site that aims to showcase all business events in Jamaica. Called Crossroads (http://croads.crossroads.com.jm), with the slogan “Where Jamaican Business Meets”, the site lists all business events - seminars, expos, meetings, etc. - as long as they are open to the public, whether free or with admission fees.
“Crossroads is a hub,” says Panmedia’s Managing Director Knolly Moses. “It is filled with events and resources relevant to all kinds of people interested in doing business in Jamaica.” The site features links to the local stock market, business schools and programmes, major financial institutions, government institutions and more. It also lists business events in the region. To populate the content initially, Panmedia asked the major professional organizations and service groups for their events calendar. The company later sent a form to these groups to make the data processing easier. The response has been encouraging, with many of the organizations even sending event reports on the outcome of their functions. Eventually, Panmedia intends to give these organizations password access to upload information on their own. Panmedia software engineer Nesta Campbell says other functionality will be added to the site to meet the needs of its audience. Panmedia designed the site five years ago, and tried to get a major Jamaican company involved. After negotiations with two companies failed to produce a sponsor, it was set aside. Late in 2004, Panmedia rebuilt the site and decided to soft launch it with its clients and the organizations that have sent their calendars. A more formal launch is scheduled for later this year. |
