Cable & Wireless' Internet Services have now been restored following the completion of repair work on a cable in Cayman that was damaged by Hurricane Ivan. The cable is part of a system that carries telecommunications traffic into and out of Jamaica.
The company had been facilitating limited Internet connectivity through its Fairview Park earth station in the aftermath of the passage of 'Ivan'.
Cable & Wireless' Senior Vice President for Network Services, Hugh Cross, says that currently plans are being made to have repair work commence as quickly as possible on the company's secondary Internet connectivity medium, the submarine Trans-Caribbean Cable System (TCS-1) which was also damaged during the passage of Hurricane Ivan.
An assessment of the damage is already being carried out and the company expects that repair work, requiring the services of a purpose-built vessel, should be completed by early October. |
