After surviving Hurricane Ivan to emerge with all mobile towers intact, mobile telephone provider Digicel, headed by Raoul Fontanez, continues the restoration of sites and services to the hardest hit sections of the island.
One of the island's earliest hit parishes, St. Thomas, is currently back on track with only two mobile sites off air and at almost full call capacity.
Other badly hit areas such as St. Elizabeth have had the majority of their sites back up since early Sunday evening and service levels are currently being addressed in Mandeville and other parts of the island.
Throughout the island, generators on sites that had lost power due to the lack of public power supply are being refuelled as the technical team gains access to them. Areas such as St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland have also been badly affected, and have been prioritised by Digicel.
The company's international service has been restored to full capacity and customers should have no trouble making and receiving international calls as normal.
INTERNET SERVICE
The companies Internet services are fully accessible and customers utilising Mobile Web and other GPRS services will have no problems getting through. Corporate customers can access information by calling 100 from their Digicel phone or contacting their major account managers.
The company has advised that as the public power supply and backup systems are restored to full capacity over the next few days, areas that are currently experiencing difficulties will have their service levels restored.
Digicel has stated that information updates will be provided to the media twice a day during the period of recovery.
