President and CEO of CWJ, Gary Barrow will be leaving Jamaica to take up a senior role at Cable & Wireless plc in London. Mr. Barrow will assume a global Senior Director role on October 1, this year, with responsibility for regulations, communications and strategy for many of the C&W national telecoms operations across the world. He will be the first Caribbean national to hold such a senior position in the London office and will report directly into Kevin Loosemore, COO Cable and Wireless Plc.
Barrow has been at the helm of CWJ for three-and-a-half years, where he was responsible for leading the organization through one of its most difficult period. Over this period, Barrow employed a three-pronged strategy for transformation of the organization -- Cost Reduction, Restructuring and Growth -- making the organization fit-for-purpose in the new competitive environment. The effectiveness of this approach has now become evident in the recently announced results which saw CWJ profits improving by 31% in the first quarter this year and its share price more than doubling in recent times. He has also installed a brand new leadership team, with over 90% of the team joining the organization over the past two to three years.
Len de Barros, Chairman of the Company and COO for the Caribbean operations, said: "Gary has done a tremendous job in transforming the company during a difficult period of liberalization and although I am sorry to see him leave the local operations, I am pleased that his skills and expertise will now be available the wider Cable and Wireless group".
De Barros also indicated that Barrow's replacement will be named shortly and that an effective transition programme will be put in place. |
