Four months after it closed three of its offices, Cable & Wireless Jamaica has signaled that it will be making similar cuts by the end of next month.
In a statement released Friday, Cable & Wireless President Gary Barrow, said the company was operating in a significantly changed environment, which meant that it would have to change its own business approach.
Specifically, he says with the predominance of private bills payment agencies, Cable & Wireless no longer has to operate so many bills collection centres of its own.
Additionally, he says all customer queries can now be raised on the company's toll free line dedicated to that purpose.
As a result he's announced that Cable & Wireless is now holding discussions with these agencies about setting up full service centres, which would provide services traditionally provided by the phone company, including accepting applications from Cable & Wireless customers.
Mr. Barrow says the proposed office closures should take effect by the end of February, with the bills payment agencies taking on the additional responsibilities on March 1.
Last September, Cable & Wireless closed its offices at Mary Brown's Corner in St. Andrew, as well as its business offices in Ocho Rios and Negril.
Two hundred workers were displaced in that exercise.
