MOBILE PHONE company Digicel has added to its network of cellular sites by commissioning a further 16 towers into service in the last two months.

These sites will provide added indoor and outdoor coverage to several rural and urban areas, as Digicel continues to boost geographic coverage.

Digicel currently has more than 250 cell sites scattered throughout all 14 parishes, catering to more than 500,000 subscribers to its network, the company stated in a release.

Digicel's infrastructure director Donal O'Shaughnessy said the company was committed to continue providing the best network coverage to its customers, which includes ensuring that users received clear reception and uninterrupted service, particularly during busy periods on the network.

"Our commitment to our customers is that as our subscriber base increases, so too will our investment in the quality and capacity of our network," Mr. O'Shaughnessy said.

Since its entrance into the market, Digicel has established its presence in many rural communities, where neither land line nor mobile services were previously available. Mr. O'Shaughnessy said that Digicel planned to roll out a further 100 cell sites over the next twelve months, in addition to investing a further 50-60 million dollars into the expansion of its network.
