Speaking at the opening of the computer laboratory at the Point Hill Primary and Junior High School, acting managing director, Mary Powell expressed RBTT's commitment to education.

She noted that "as a Caribbean bank, we believe in the power of education to change the world positively, to improve the lives of others and for leaving our communities and world better than when we found them."

Impact on lives

Mrs. Powell emphasised the bank's thrust in contributing to the respective communities in Jamaica and praised the school for the information they supplied in the application process as it detailed the impact the establishment of these computers would make on the lives of the children and the community.

While reiterating the bank's commitment to the importance of academic excellence, general manager for retail banking, Loren Edwards, noted that it was incumbent on corporate Jamaica "to provide the essential tools for our children for them to become equipped with the necessary skills to keep ahead of the learning curve."

Mr. Edwards, who was speaking at the opening of the Half-Way Tree Primary's computer laboratory, pointed to the fact that Jamaica was now part of the global arena, and that the computer "has become the main tool of communication for many of us," to use in our everyday lives.

He added that despite the rigorous selection process where over 100 schools applied, the bank is satisfied that it made the right decision and that the 24 computers will be utilised to their full potential.
