Cable & Wireless Jamaica’s (C&WJ) fixed lines customers in several communities across St. Catherine are now without fixed line service as a result of the recurring theft of the Company’s cables in some areas of that parish over the past six months.
In the last month, close to 1000 customers in Ewarton, Mount Rosser, Treadways, Cogheil District and Sligoville as well as sections of Hellshire and Hellshire Park, have been without telephone and Internet service due to the theft of several sections of cable. C&WJ’s repair crews are currently undertaking work to replace the stolen cables and restore service in the affected communities. However, the Company’s restoration efforts are being severely hampered by the repeated theft of the cables soon after they have been replaced. Restoration work is scheduled to be completed in Hellshire over this weekend, (September 30) while customers in Sligoville and its environs should receive service by October 3, 2007. Customers in Ewarton, Mount Rosser, Treadways, Cogheil District and surrounding areas, where there have been multiple repeat incidents of cable theft, are projected to have full restoration of their service by mid-October. Cable & Wireless is appealing to members of the public who observe unauthorised persons removing telephone cables to contact the company at 922-HELP, that’s 922-4357, call 119 or contact the nearest police station. |
