The information technology training programme at the Fair Prospect Primary School in Portland has received a boost with the presentation of three refurbished computers to the institution by the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo).

Wilf Talbot, regional director for the company's eastern region, recently made the presentation to Principal Julie Bailey on the school grounds.  The donation, which was made possible through the utility company's community relations department, is part of outreach initiatives by the JPSCo to assist the education sector and improve the performance of students.

Other initiatives being undertaken by the company in pursuit of that objective include sponsoring sports and debating competitions among schools; partnering with the government to finance the school feeding programme; and facilitating training seminars for science teachers.  Daffodil Bruce, JPSCo community relations officer, told JIS News that the company was happy to be able to assist Fair Prospect Primary, adding that the outreach activities gave the organisation an opportunity to give back to the country.

She noted that the company was targeting education for assistance in recognition of the critical role of the sector in the national development process.  Meanwhile, Bailey told JIS News that the presentation has brought to nine, the number of computers being used for the information technology programme.

She said that the additional equipment would allow more students to access computer skills and better enable both staff and students to conduct research.
