After successfully migrating most of its customers to its GSM network, Cable & Wireless Jamaica (CWJ) will be retiring its TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) mobile network on March 30, 2007.
Since the launch of its GSM service in 2003, the Company ceased adding customers to its TDMA network and began the systematic migration of its existing users to the new system. Now as it proposes to retire the TDMA network, CWJ is making it easy for the remaining customers to migrate with attractive handset trade-in offers. Prepaid customers who trade-in their TDMA instruments will get very attractive discounts on GSM phones and $500 free credit. In addition, postpaid users can swap their TDMA handsets for a new one at no cost. The move to the GSM network will give customers access to a range of new features and valued-added services including Internet browsing, downloading ringtones, multi-media messaging and push-to-talk, with enabled handsets. Since the launch of its GSM service in 2003, CWJ has been consistently expanding and upgrading its mobile network. Last year alone, the Company spent more than $1 billion on mobile network development, significantly improving coverage in places such as Clarendon, Manchester, St. James and the Corporate Area. Additional improvements are scheduled to come on stream this year. |
