NOW I'LL explain this again for those who went crazy making the trek through XP's trouble-shooters. They don't work.
Although some will say that MS Help has never been more than a way to cut down on the 'liquidity' of disk space, and though I have never got anything to work by following the instructions given, I'm sure in '98 they almost worked.
XP's help is like Jamaica's morality. 'nuff said.
To get a previous programme to work under XP do this:
Click on Start, go to Accessories, go down to command prompt and click.
You will get C:documents and Settings<your name>
Type cd
You will get C:>
At that C prompt type md then the call name for your programme.
(I am using an obsolete word processing programme called Professional Write in this example which is known as pfs so at the C: I type md pfs
Then I type cd pfs.
md means 'Make directory'. cd means 'Change directory'.
I will get c:pfs>
At that prompt I will either install the pfs from a floppy or a CD by typing copy {say it's on a floppy so it's the A drive} a:pfs.and push enter.
The program pfs will be copied to the C:pfs> directory.
Then you get the fun of using the Programme compatibility wizard. If you have an Obeah man on tap, now's the time for the candles incantation and chicken blood.
The Wizard is found by going to Start, then Accessories.
You will have to manually find the programme as the 'wizard' couldn't find it's harddrive with both sprockets.
Your programme is at C:{name of directory}. In my case it is C:pfs.
Once the Wizard finds it you are not finished yet. You have got to manually find your programme, (usually using windows explorer which is also to be found by Start, Accessories.)
Find the implementation file, usually a .com or .exe. right click and send it to the desktop.
If you've done the right incantations, the moon is not tied to Uranus and Mickey and Goofy aren't in conjunction, it should work.
