Mobile Telecom provider Digicel Jamaica yesterday announced two changes in its management team that it says are needed to support the company's rapid growth rate.

Harry Smith, who had been commercial director with the telecom firm since April 2004, will now take the title of chief customer relations officer. In addition, former senior manager at Red Stripe, Niall Dorrian, was appointed chief operations officer, a new position within Digicel Jamaica. Both executives will officially take on their new roles from September 6, reporting directly to Digicel Jamaica CEO David Hall, whose responsibilities have been expanded to cover the group's entire Northern Caribbean subsidiaries.

"We are putting this enhanced management structure in place to ensure that as we evolve the business we will continue to deliver the best value and best quality services amongst our competition," said Colm Delves, Digicel Group CEO.

As chief customer relations officer, Smith will be responsible for the management of marketing, corporate and consumer sales, wireless broadband and customer care, while Dorrian, as chief operating officer, will have management responsibilities for human resources, information technology, finance, technical operations and group procurement and distribution.

Since its launch in 2001, Digicel has become the fastest growing wireless telecommunications operator in the Caribbean. It is the largest GSM operator in the region.

Digicel is incorporated in Bermuda and has operations in 20 markets, including Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curacao, The Cayman Islands, Dominica, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago & Turks & Caicos. Digicel also has coverage in St Martin and St Barths and expects further significant growth.
