Technology firm e-Services Group International which will double its workforce to nearly 3,000 by yearend, says that though it pays $5,000 per week to trainees, the average salary of its staff is around $12,000 per week.

"We pay salaries to staff based on three stages of employment," said the company in providing more details on its pay structure than what was published in last week's Business Observer lead story, in which it was correctly reported that trainees are paid $5,000 per week during their six to eight-week apprenticeship.

"Within initial training, whether this is our company customer service training or client product and process training, we pay our staff a base salary of J$4,500 per week, where J$500 is withheld on a weekly basis and paid as a lump sum upon successful completion of the courses."

Added the company: "Once an agent reaches the production floor and is taking calls on behalf of our clients, we pay a base salary of J$5,000 per week during a three month probationary period (the training time is included in this period).  Upon completion of the probationary period, we add an incentive scheme to the base salary that also pays on a weekly basis, based on an agent's performance against set criteria.  On average, a post-probation agent will be earning J$12,000 per week.  On top of the weekly incentives, we also provide other incentive schemes such as product raffles, cinema ticket giveaways, free entrance to local entertainment venues etc."

e-Services whose primary centre is in Bogue Montego Bay also has an operation at Naggo Head in St Catherine where scores of the new staff members will be employed.  The firm is headed by Patrick Casserly, the entrepreneur who in 2003, was named Business Leader.
