THE more than 500 students attending the Parry Town Primary school had much to smile about last Friday. The institution officially opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art computer lab.
The air-conditioned lab boasting three computers, complete with printers and a scanner, were all donated by Sandals Grande Ocho Rios compliments of Derrick and Doris Harrison, who are multiple return guests of the resort. "We have been lobbying to establish this computer lab for almost two years now, and it is a feeling of accomplishment that I stand before you today to declare that the vision has finally become a reality," Clive Miller, the resort's hotel manager said before a packed house in his address at the opening."We have moved from an era of agriculture to industrial technologies in today's world, where everything is computerised. It is, therefore, timely that we are launching this computer lab as we are giving the students of Parry Town Primary a jump-start into their academic pursuits and wherever their career objectives may take them in the future," Miller added. For his part, Harrison remarked that he hoped the computer lab would go a long way in preparing the students for the next level of their academic pursuit, and boost the efforts of their teachers in preparing lesson plans, homework and other projects. Meanwhile, Adrian nelson, public relations manager, commended the Harrisons for their contribution, and described the couple as 'prized guests'. "We implore the school's administration to ensure that this computer lab is utilised to the fullest. We also pledge our continued support to Parry Town Primary to ensure that the students have the best possible start to their academic pursuits and subsequent career objectives," Nelson added. Claudette Forsythe, principal at Parry Town primary said she was happy that the school had a new lab, noting that it had been a dream of hers for many years. article link |
