In a move that is expected to revolutionize the credit and debit card business, National Commercial Bank (NCB) will become the first major business to utilize bmobile's Global Packet Radio System (GPRS) as the backbone of a new wireless Point of Sale (POS) solution.
The state of the art system uses bmobile's secure connectivity to link the bank's database servers that verify and process debit and credit card transactions. This solution will result in greater convenience for both customers and merchants as the use of wireless authorization terminals will give businesses an added option to be able to accept credit and debit cards for their transactions.
'This is an innovative partnership that will afford flexibility to business people and convenient services to the consumer, and bmobile is pleased to be making it all possible," said David Reavley, Senior Vice President Mobile Services at Cable & Wireless Jamaica.
Explaining the potential of the wireless POS Mr. Reavley added, "The prospects are exciting. Imagine a situation in which you're short on cash - if a pizza delivery service or say a vendor at Faith's Pen has the wireless POS, you can use your debit or credit card to make your purchase."
Ingrid Stephens, Assistant General Manager & Divisional Head of NCB's eBusiness and Merchant Services said her organization has had a history of successful collaborations and partnerships with Cable & Wireless.
"We are confident that this initiative will be another success story as our experience with C&W has always been positive. We are also banking on the reach of their network to provide our customers in areas without fixed lines with this secure payment solution." Ms. Stephens said.
The bank currently has several mobile POS terminals deployed and its clients have expressed satisfaction with the service.
'We have been receiving enthusiastic responses from the entities now taking part in our pilot programme. They include international courier companies, restaurants, fast food outlets, and a major appliance dealer," Ms. Stephens said. "We are really excited about the prospects of this timely solution and the value it will bring to businesses." |
