New Horizons Jamaica launches new method of learning PDF Print E-mail

New Horizons of Jamaica launched its newest learning delivery method today, Mentored Learning .  The delivery method was developed in Europe by industry professionals to provide a method of training that combines a three dimensional learning concept that includes a Certified Mentor, Official Vendor courseware and multi-media content to provide a robust and rich learning experience.

Mentored Learning totally embraces the New Horizons Integrated Learning Framework of Assess, Learn, Reinforce, Support and Validate.  Students training in the Mentored Learning Classroom are provided with customized, individual learning plans that specifically meet their needs.  Assessments are an integral part of a learner's experience to determine the areas one needs to study and to measure retention.  Rather than covering information they already know, their learning plan will focus on topics they still need to learn and strengthen any weaknesses.  Students schedule themselves for three and half (3½) hour training sessions at the Center, and work through courses, at their own pace.  Post-training assessments are conducted at the end of each training session to confirm the knowledge transfer.  A Certified Mentor is present to provide individual attention and guide students through the learning process.

This new training method was created by New Horizons of Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2003.  NH Rotterdam increased its revenue by more than 40% in the first twelve months of launching, and Mentored Learning is now yielding record sales for all of their training Centers in The Netherlands.

"We expect to repeat the same level of success that other New Horizons training centers have attained internationally," said Anna-Kay Lee, General Manager New Horizons of Jamaica.  "We anticipate that the Mentored Learning modality of delivery to training will have significant appeal to businesses locally because of the flexibility of scheduling, the customized approach to the learning paths and the continual measured progress of each client."

Built-in benefits of the Mentored Learning method include Targeted Training.  According to Lee, "Because students take pre-assessment tests, they undergo just the right amount of training that they need.  Students will not have to sit through an entire week-long class if they only need customized content of the training.  Another benefit is the One-on-One Instructor Time.  Students receive true "one-on-one" access to a Certified Instructor.  This can be invaluable to a student who is struggling within a specific subject area.

"Mentored Learning will now afford greater availability of courses typically offered on a less frequent basis and expand our courses being offered in the classroom," explains Marcia Jackson, Sales Manager, New Horizons.  "Previously some courses were often only taught every other month or once a quarter, and now, a client can take a course, as soon as they require the knowledge."  She said.

Courses to which clients will have more frequent access include CISCO, Security Certifications - CISSP, Wireless - CWNA, CompTIA Security+ & Linux+, Programming in Microsoft .Net Development, Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Visual C#, JAVA, Crystal Reports, and Microsoft Office 2003, among many others.

New Horizons training Centers in other countries to have successfully launched Mentored Learning include Australia, Ireland, UK, Germany, Portugal, Hong Kong, South Africa, and recently the USA.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers is the largest computer training organisation in the world.  The Organisation has been providing learning solutions that have helped organisations achieve business results such as increasing productivity and efficiencies, driving revenue and reducing costs.  The local arm was selected the Government's 'Preferred Training Provider' in 2004 after the Government's successful negotiation of the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement under which the Jamaican government acquired from Microsoft the right to use IT software across its 15 Ministries.
