The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) got an early Christmas present today with a donation of five new computers from Cable & Wireless Jamaica (CWJ). The telecoms company will also provide high speed Internet service for the Office of the Commission of Police free of cost for the New Year.
The "gift", which is valued at approximately $500,000, will boost the JCF's drive to modernise their operations. The donation also marks a continuation of CWJ's efforts to support the work of the security forces and other organisations involved in the fight against crime. In October the Company committed $2.4 million to fund the Private Sector of Jamaica's (PSOJ) Crime Stop programme for a year and, more recently, CWJ provided $1 million in sponsorship for the National Forum on Crime. While handing over the computers today, at the Office of the Commissioner, CWJ's President and CEO Rodney Davis said his Company will "actively provide assistance" for crime prevention efforts wherever it is possible. "I have a great deal of respect for the work that you and your entire team are trying to do under such challenging circumstances," Mr. Davis told Deputy Police Commissioner, Charles Scarlett, who accepted the computers on the JCF's behalf. The CWJ President also expressed his firm support for the JCF. "Let me say now that you have the full and unswerving support of me and my entire team at Cable & Wireless Jamaica. We live here, we work here and we make our living here and we will stand behind the men and women who literally put their lives on the line to make this country a safer place for us and our families," he said. |
