C&WJ offers better overseas call options PDF Print E-mail

The introduction of a new flat-rate unlimited international telephone service via the Internet by Cable and Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) will provide consumers with a more affordable option of staying in touch with overseas partners, friends and family.

The new "Netspeak" service will be most suitable to consumers who make frequent overseas calls as it will allow them to make unlimited calls to the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom using a Voice Over Internet Protocal (VOIP) for a monthly flat-rate of $1,575 per month.

ADD-ON OPTIONS

In addition to the basic Netspeak package, consumers can choose other add-on options to enable them to call other countries such as India and Germany and other Caribbean countries where C&W service is available.  Subscribers to the service will get an overseas telephone number to minimise the cost of call charges.  Other features such as call waiting, call forwarding, caller identification and a special voice mail service which allows messages to be downloaded from a website or emailed to users will also come with the package.

BARRIER-BREAKING INITIATIVE

According to C&WJ president and chief executive officer, Rodney Davis, Netspeak is "another barrier-breaking initiative which will provide our customers with another truly viable and economic way to communicate as the Netspeak rates are extremely competitive."  He said this was part of the company's efforts to offer cost-effective communication services.

Magnus Johansson, vice-president of broadband services at C&WJ said the number of customers has grown from about 3,000 last year to just over 23,000 presently with the introduction of high-speed broadband internet service.

"This is truly an exciting product and more importantly, it delivers great value (because) a lot of us here in Jamaica have family and friends abroad and now it's much more affordable to keep in touch," Mr. Davis said at the launch of the service at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston yesterday.
