Caribbean Net Talk, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) company, launched in Jamaica two months ago, is all set to be a worthy competitor to both Cable & Wireless and Digicel in the provision of telephone services. It is already the largest provider of VOIP in Jamaica and within the next month expects to be the same in the Caribbean.
Caribbean Net Talk has removed upfront costs by providing the equipment and installation for free. Previously, a customer would have had to pay up to US$200 before being able to use the service. The Caribbean Net Talk customer simply requests the service and it is installed within 24 hours. The customer simply pays the monthly flat rate fee to enjoy unlimited calls to the USA, Canada and the UK. The rates offer good value to residential and business customers for international calls. Prices start from US$24.95 per month. "We are a marketing company as opposed to a technology company, so we researched the customer need for this service and developed it to meet that need. The response has been overwhelming, we are delighted to be providing a service that truly meets customer requirements for unparalleled value in international calls," said Marguerite Cremin, Marketing Director for Caribbean Net Talk. The company has just placed a further order for an additional 2000 units from Viper Networks, the carrier partner in the USA. "We are finding that our best selling tool is our customer base, our customers are recommending our service to friends and family so sales are mushrooming. We are anticipating a very big demand at Christmas time, as it is the ideal gift to give friends and family. It truly enables people to stay connected even if they are in separate countries," said Cremin. Caribbean Net Talk plans to expand their service to other markets within the next three months. The market for VOIP has increased dramatically over the past twelve months. According to USAToday, there are now 2.7 million VOIP users in US, up from 440,000 one year ago. TeleGeography forecasts annual VOIP revenue hitting US$3 billion in two years. Caribbean Net Talk has stated that they want to acquire 20 per cent of the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) base in Jamaica within the next twelve months.
