Recently, I wrote on the Chinese Government's attempts to censor the content of China-based blogs and websites. Then I heard about a recent study on Internet filtering in Iran, which identified the extent to which the Iranian Government controls access to or content on Iranian websites, blogs, message boards and in emails, and China's efforts seem almost mild in comparison. |

Recently, Mastercard International announced what may amount to one of the largest data security breaches in history. The credit card numbers of an estimated 40 million customers (primarily from MasterCard and American Express) were apparently compromised by hackers, through a company which processes credit card and payments for banks and merchants. |

For the past few years, Google, Yahoo and MSN have been the search engines of choice for most Internet users. However, another type of search engine has been gaining popularity - Metasearch engines. A metasearch engine does not have its own database; instead it gets its results by simultaneously querying the databases of other search engines and generating a page which consists of some combination of the results from these engines. Their obvious advantage is that you can get the best of several worlds, as they allow you to search multiple search engines at the same time rather than just one. |
