CWJ to roll out 3G network PDF Print E-mail

Cable & Wireless is investing J$2.1 billion (US$30-million) to transform its core mobile network and introduce 3G capabilities to the Greater Kingston, St. Catherine and St. Thomas areas making it the most modern network in Jamaica and the rest of the English-speaking Caribbean.

Digicel sees 39 per cent increase in subscriber numbers PDF Print E-mail

Caribbean mobile service provider Digicel has seen its subscriber base increase significantly across all its markets throughout the Caribbean and Central America. According to recently released data, the end of the fourth quarter (March 2008) saw Digicel with 6.54 million customers, representing a 39 per cent increase compared to the same quarter in the previous financial year. This means that Digicel has added 1.8 million subscribers in a year. The company's measurement of subscribers is based on a highly conservative approach of a subscriber only being defined as "active" if that subscriber had a changeable event in the last 30 days.

Cable & Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced that pre-paid BlackBerry voice and data service will be officially introduced to the Jamaican mobile market on June 23, 2008 – a first not only for the Caribbean, but for North and South America.
